Black Friday 2009 - the Videogame Winners and Losers
>> From vgchartz.com:
[QUOTE]
As with 2008, the biggest winner on Black Friday was Nintendo. According to our preliminary data, Nintendo sold nearly 800,000 Wii units and 850,000 DS units in the Americas during the week ending 28th November - pretty much exactly the same as last year.

Sony had mixed fortunes this year. PS3 sold nearly 400,000 units during the week - around twice as many as last year and significantly ahead of Xbox 360. On the other hand, PSP sales were down over 35% year on year and PS2 was down over 25%.

And lastly Microsoft had a solid week but down on last year. Around 325,000 Xbox 360s were sold, down over 35% on last year's record-breaking Black Friday for Microsoft.

Xbox 360 BBC iPlayer launch delayed indefinitely
>> From telegraph.co.uk:
[QUOTE]
According to sources close to the BBC's Future Media and Technology department, a deal between the two parties has still been unable to be reached because Microsoft's strategy of charging for all content on its Xbox Live platform is incompatible with the BBC's public service remit.

"Microsoft only wants to offer its users access to platforms it can charge for as this is the model it is pursuing. It wants to ensure that only those paying for Xbox Live Gold accounts can access its additional content services and even then there is usually a charge on top to get access to those. For example, to access the Sky Player on Xbox, you have to pay for a Gold subscription as well as a Sky subscription," explained one of the sources close to the BBC.

"This does not fit with the BBC's model and Microsoft will not budge at the moment. It is really frustrating for those involved on the BBC side who want to make sure iPlayer is rolled out on as many popular entertainment platforms as possible," they added.

KeyVault Modder v1D
>> Zouzzz posted another new application on gx-mod.com.
This application allows you to read-out and modify some KeyVault data from your NAND image (will require your unique CPU-key - which as reminder you can't get if you upgraded to kernel 849x or higher). You can spoof ur DVD drive on KV-side (rather than spoofing the actual drive), change your game-region and read-out/change the DVD-key.

What's new/fixed:
- add compatibily with kv.bin extract with BinCrypt
- size detection
- some small changes

* Secdata Scan v0.2 (by zouzzz)
Secdata Scan is a small utility that will save you manually open your NAND dump to find the address to hex edit to restore the functionality of the hdd after a ban.
Once you load your nand image in Secdata, it will show you the last secdata updated on your console and the real address of this bloc to use with with nandpro.

* 360 HDFR v1.03 (by SoulHeaven) (French)
360 Hard Disk Functinalities Restorer v1.03 will allow you to patch your nand automatically in order to restore the functionality to install games on your harddrive on a banned Xbox 360.
Does the same as Secdata Scan but with more functionality:
- Show you the real date of secdata update
- Can generate a zero filled file from your nand image for nanpro
- Can patch your nand for Cygnos v2
Note: does not work on 256/512MB NANDs yet.

UnCripple your Xbox 360 HDD After a BAN
>> There's been a discussion thread on our forums about a way to 'uncripple' your harddrive AFTER you got banned.
As you know Microsoft decided to 'remove' some HDD features (like play games from HDD, etc) when your console gets banned.

Microsoft does this by modifying data in the secdata.bin on the NAND (that's why write-lock the NAND was a way to prevent HDD-crippling).
But people found out the NAND has older (backup?) copies of secdata.bin stored on the NAND as well. Now the hack consists in making your Xbox 360 use an old version of the secdata.bin. All secdata.bin are tagged with a date stamp so you can easily find out which one is newer or older. As your console is already banned, it does not really matter if MS can detect this or not.
Thwack wrote a good tutorial with a method to do this on our forums.

This is pure HEX editing in the NAND image, no CPU-key or whatever is needed. However, for those new in dumping the Xbox 360 NAND ... if you do via LTP with nandpro, make sure to dump it a few times and check to make sure your image is good.
Before wild stories go around ... this does NOT unban your console from LIVE.

New York Tests Xbox-Based Alert System
>> From informationweek.com:
[QUOTE]
Gamers are used to confronting invading terrorists, nuclear attacks, and natural calamities--in virtual form. But those living in New York State could soon receive warnings about real emergencies through their favorite video console.

State authorities are testing a plan that would see the Emergency Management Office issue alerts over online gaming networks in addition to regular channels.

The goal, said New York State Deputy CIO Rico Singleton, is to reach younger residents who spend more time on the Xbox, PlayStation, or Wii than with television or radio.

Datel sues Microsoft over Xbox 360 memory unit crackdown
>> From techflash.com:
[QUOTE]
Datel Design & Development, a maker of memory units for Microsoft's Xbox 360, has filed an antitrust suit against Microsoft over its moves to prevent the U.K.-based company's products from working with the game console. The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, says Microsoft is unfairly favoring its own Xbox 360 accessories by disabling the functionality of competing technologies.

Microsoft announced last month that a software update would block unauthorized memory units from working with the console. The move was ostensibly meant to crack down on cheating enabled by unauthorized memory units -- including a Datel unit that uses removable MicroSD cards -- but it also drew complaints from gamers over the price that Microsoft charges for its own memory units.

The suit seeks an injunction to prevent Microsoft from "disabling or erecting technological barriers to Datel accessories," in current and future game consoles. It also seeks unspecified monetary damages.
